I am a web designer/geek. I have been for over 8 years now. In that time I have worked on many projects, both large and small. Like most people I didn't intend to get into web design. It just happened that way.
I started my career like most people at the bottom of the ladder, cutting and pasting my way through the day for Best Hotel Ltd. I would like to say that my BSc in Computing has helped me to get to the place I am now, but like most University courses it has no real bearing on the media in which I apply my trade.
I am, like most web designers, self taught and over the last 8 years have learned a lot of things about the medium we know as the Internet. I've worked on many projects, and over the last 4 years have had the pleasure of dealing with lots of different aspects of the Internet and in particular the design and promotion of web sites. I have an extensive knowledge of html, xhtml and css. I am also well versed in php, perl and javascript.
Unlike the majority of people I believe that you should be able to write all code from scratch, and as a result write all web pages and scripts using a basic text editor. By doing this it gives me a better understanding of how the pages are created and also more control over the finished article, without all the automatic padding that some programs deliver.
As part of my role at Best Hotel Ltd, I oversee the all design work that is produced from our other major site Best Designs. I look after a small team of designers and also deal with the general SEO and any code optimisation that is required. I like to think of myself as a Jack of all trades, as I will apply my hand to anything. I love to try new things and am constantly researching new tricks and techniques. If I can help, I will.
